Several members devoted last Sunday and Monday to refinishing the Killington Arts Guild gallery space provided by Base Camp Outfitters. Over the years the gallery wall surfaces had become pot marked by succeeding exhibitions. Rotary members spackled the holes, and applied a coat of fresh paint over all the walls and one section of ceiling. |

Sitting on the deck sipping a “Hot Chocolate” is very
relaxing while sitting in an Adirondack Ski Chair. Yes, Killington Pico Rotary
ski chair committee will build chairs this fall to sell on a
first come basis. You may also provide your own three pairs of skis
to personalize your chair. As of 10/14 two chairs remain available for sale. Tell your friends
and neighbors to order early. One chair is $325 and two for $625.
The clear white cedar boards grown in Vermont have arrived in Killington for the design/build process. The chair building team is now working to build your chair.

For updates on travel restrictions and emergency help click HERETo file for FEMA disaster assistance click HEREKillington and surrounding towns were declared a federal disaster by President Obama on September 1, 2011 following devastating flood caused by Irene. The local volunteer effort has been just heartening to watch as many town residents have pitched in to help their fellow men. Seems like everyone with a backhoe was out on their own shoring up the road destruction the minute the storm was over. Our own Red Glaze has been out on the waste water treatment plant area for days clearing the storm runoff gravel which was 4 feet deep across much of the area. Many other Rotary members are helping in their capacity as Killington Fire and Rescue members or as volunteers at the town emergency center which is set up at the Fire Department on Killington Road. Donations from away may be sent to: Killington Pico Rotary Club, c/o Treasurer Ron Riquier, PO Box 421, Killington, VT 05751. While we welcome all contributions, we are at this time unable to offer donors the assurance of tax deductibility of donations. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts as we recover from this event. |

Spartan Death Race candidate Margaret Schlacter visited our dinner meeting this week to talk about her somewhat unusual way of blowing off excess energy. Margaret "competes" and trains in the long distance obstacle racing pioneered in nearby Pittsfield and coming to Killington this August. Check out her training blog at http://www.dirtinyourskirt.com/ Somehow our regionally shared obsession with skiing doesn't seem so radical when compared with taking a 23 pound rock everywhere you go. |

Several Rotary members took their casino show on the road to the Pico Sports Center in support of Rutland High School's Project Graduation. The event aims to offer a safe alternative to drinking and dirving on graduation night. Rotary club members set up a Roulette wheel, dice game, wheel of fortune and several Black Jack and Texas Hold'em tables serviced by parent volunteers. A fun time was had by all. |

The 23rd annual Killington Pico Rotary golf tournament to benefit the Rutland Area Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice was held yesterday in spectacular weather. A good time was had by all and all proceeds went to RAVNAH. Ken Lee, the host with the most, was happy with the turnout at the Green Mountain National golf course. |
