Salvation Army Major stops by to say "Thank you"

Major Charles Balcom of the Salvation Army came to Wednesday's dinner to thank us for our contribution to the mission of the Salvation Army in greater Rutland.  We run several fundraisers during the year and we distribute the money raised to a variety of organizations that help our community.  The Salvation Army headquarters was impacted by Irene last year and they are in need of help with the relocation.  The Salvation Army funding is donation based with additional revenues from their operation of a thrift store near Godnick's Furniture on Route 7.  The Salvation Army, established in London in 1865, is an evangelical Christian ministry. It has operated in the U.S. for 129 years and is headquartered in Virginia. Nearly 30 million Americans get help from the Salvation Army each year. Among its many services, the Salvation Army provides food and shelter for the homeless, assistance for disaster victims, services for the disabled and opportunities for under-privileged kids.
